The Graduation Project

In June 2000 the Frederick County Board of Education adopted new high school graduation standards.  The total credit requirement was increased from 21 to 25 and included a required one-credit Graduation Project.  The purpose of this required credit is to ensure that prior to graduation, all students produce a culminating project that:  (a) showcases the student’s individual interests and talents; (b) enhances life-long learning skills; (c) demonstrates the student’s ability to think critically to solve real-world problems.

Objectives:

  • To provide a forum for students to apply interdisciplinary skills and knowledge
  • To allow students to investigate areas of high interest to them including career focus
  • To develop projects that would be culminating outcomes of students' high school interests and experiences
  • To publicly exhibit what students know and are able to do
  • To enhance communication skills
  • To demonstrate a significant step towards becoming life-long learners
  • To demonstrate appropriate use of technologies
