Overview:
Beginning with the Class of 2006, Frederick County
Public Schools will require students to successfully complete a one-credit
Graduation Project. The Graduation Project is an interdisciplinary, culmination
product that is designed to showcase students' individual interest and talents,
to enhance life-long learning skills, and to think critically to solve
real-world problems. To earn the one credit for the Graduation Project, students
must complete the required components at or above the competency standard for
each component. Students may enroll in a Graduation Project class during their
junior or senior year or may opt to complete the Graduation Project either as an
extension of a Transition Education experience (Mentor/Internship, SSL, or
Work/Study) or through Independent Contract. Students will be assigned a
Frederick High School faculty member to monitor progress throughout the duration
of the project. Each student will also be required to recruit a mentor, a
professional with expertise in the field/area of the student's Graduation
Project, who is willing to make a commitment to work with the student throughout
the process. A minimum of 132 hours of combined classroom and/or independent
study is mandatory to fulfill this one credit requirement.
